Heritage Malta - Museum Site in Gozo, Victoria / Rabat - Citadel - The Museum of Archaeology (Gozo)We visited The Museum of Archaeology (Gozo), Gozo, Victoria / Rabat - Citadel, as part of our visit to Malta in 2011The Museum of Archaeology (Gozo) Entrance fee is applicable to this Heritage Malta museum. Housed in a fine 17th century Citadel townhouse that was once the Town Hall where the Knights of St John received their honoured guests. The Gozo Museum of Archaeology is a fine collection including Prehistoric artefacts from burial sites and the bronze age of particular note here are the double seated figurine and the Set of 'Stick' figurines from Xaghra Stone circle. Found at the Xaghra Stone Circle - A set of 'stick' figurines, from the Tarxen phase: 3150 - 2500 B.C., some of which appear incomplute. They include zoomorphic representations. Probably deposited as a bundle, they were carved in local Globigerina limestone.The other sections: Prehistory, Punic & Roman, Shipwrecks and Medieval Display are full of more intersting items.
