Malta, Marsaxlokk - Marsaxlokk Village - Marsaxlokk BayAt the southeastern tip of Malta mainland, Marsaxlokk is less than half an hour from Valletta by road transport
Maltese families visit by their hundreds on Sundays to buy at the famous Marsaxlokk fish market on the quays, and then to linger in one of the excellent seafront restaurants. The picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk on Marsaxlokk Bay is worth a visit particularly on Sunday for Grab a bite to eat or relax with a beverage at a waterfront restaurant or cafe and watch the colourful fishing boats called Luzzu bob around the harbour. Marsaxlokk is Malta's main fishing port even though apparently just a picturesque fishing 'village' it is steeped in history and tradition. The main church in Marsaxlokk is the Church of Our Lady of Pompeii. There are some travel excursion companies that sell a combined half day trip for the Blue Grotto and Marsaxlokk Market, both in the south of the island, but we found that you could do the two places much cheaper as part of the Maltasightseeing - hop on - hop off - South, Red Route.
