The Siege Bell tolls at midday, every day in memory of those who gave their lives during the Siege of Malta - A book of rememberance is in the National War Museum, Valletta. The Siege Bell Monument was erected in 1992 and commemorates the award of The George Cross to Malta and honours over 7000 service personnel and civilians who gave their lives during the siege of Malta by Axis forces between 1940 and 1943.
A commemorative plaque, on the wall below the bell, was unveiled by His Excellency Professor Guido de Marco the then President of Malta on the 15th April 2002 upon the 60th anniversary of the George Cross award, in the presence of Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, The Princess Royal.
