Air Malta was founded in 1974 and has an excellent flight safety record. Flying to over 40 destinations in Europe, the Eastern Mediterranian and North Africa.

Air Malta operates a modern fleet of over a dozen aircraft, made up of Airbus A319, A320 and Boeing 737. Aicraft operate with Economy and Club class.

Air Malta scheduled return flights are generally subject to 3 nights minimum to 3 months maximum stay.

Air Malta return charter flights are generally subject to a minimum stay of 7 nights to a maximum of 21 nights.

Air Malta Economy Class has: seating with 31 inches pitch, a free luggage allowance of 20kg, complimentary meal and drink* and in-flight entertainment.

Air Malta Business (Club) Class has: a seperate and spacious passenger cabin area, a free luggage allowance of 30kg, a specially selected menue and an open bar service - including champagne, prioroty boarding and baggage claim. With additional facilities and services in the la Valette lounge plus fast track check-in at Malta International Airport and fast track check-in at Heathrow.

When this article was writen in late 2008 Air Malta had a fleet of 12 Airbus aircraft. The Air Malta fleet includes 7 Airbus A320 and 5 Airbus A319.

Air Malta lease their aircraft through a multi-million dollar agreement which involves International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), a major American aircraft lessor, Airbus Industrie and CFM International for the renewal of its fleet over a four-and-a-half-year period. Two major elements of the deal involve the sale and lease back from ILFC, of Air Malta's own two A320-200s and three B737-300s, and the lease of twelve new aircraft for a term of twelve years each, which will be of the A320 family. They will be powered by CFM engines (The CFM name comes from a combination of two companies' commercial engine designations: General Electric's CF6 and Snecma's M56.)

The A319, powered by CFM56 engines, carries 141 passengers in a typical two-class seating over a range of up to 2,600 nm/4,815 km.

Airbus 320-200 - 7 in fleet

The A320 is a narrow-bodied, medium-haul aircraft which is capable of carrying up to 1.5 tonnes of cargo in addition to a full passenger load dependent on each route. This aircraft has two holds consisting of four compartments, all of which are designed for the carriage of loose-loaded bulk cargo and mail.

CFM56 Turbofan Engines

The CFM56 is a family of turbofan engines spanning a thrust range of 18,500 to 34,000 lb (82 to 151 kN). In the last 20 years, nearly 15,000 engines have been sold with over 200 million hours in flight. Another 2 million flight hours is being added every month.
