Firefighters 'Maltese' Cross 'Firepatch' Badge
as worn by many USA Fire Departments
In the United States, Florian crosses are often mistakenly called Maltese crosses, and are often used by fire departments. For example the New York City Fire Department and the Philadelphia Fire Department both incorporate the Florian cross into their insignia, as does the International Association of Fire Fighters. Saint Florian is the patron saint of fire fighters.
