Gozo Island - Malta

Many myths and miracles abound on the island of Gozo

The Gozo Ro-Ro Ferry at Cirkewwa, Malta

Transfer time from Malta's International Airport to Gozo is around 1.5 hours, including the ferry crossing.

It is recommended that when you visit Gozo you do not refer to Gozitans as Maltese as they are fiercely individualistic.

Gozo's capital is Victoria also known as ancient 'Rabat'.

Hop on a boat to the rural Maltese island of Gozo and enjoy the red sands of the beach at Ramla il-Hamra, and the historic capital, Rabat.

Head to Cirkewwa, on the northernmost tip of the Maltese mainland, to catch the car ferry over the Mgarr in Gozo. The crossing takes around 25 minutes.

You will discover an island rich in ancient history, green hills and picturesque villages on Gozo, as well as some of the best diving opportunities in the Med.

Gozo is an enchanting retreat where everything moves at a slower pace and is definitely more rural than its grown-up neighbour Malta.

Mgarr is the sea port you will arrive at by ferry from Malta

Gozo Beaches - Gozo Bays

One of the joys of being on the island of Gozo is that, no matter where you are, you're never far from one of the many magnificent beaches or secluded little coves.

Gozo has around 56km of coastline and some of the best diving in the Mediterranean.

There is a choice of both sandy and rocky beaches on the island, offering practical areas for the family, scenic spots for the romantics, serene areas for those in want of peace and spots for those who are interested in a bit of summer sports fun.

The following are some of the most popular Gozo beaches and bays:

Dahlet Qorrot - Dwejra - Hondoq Ir-Rummien - Marsalforn - Mgarr ix-Xini - Qbajjar - Ramla Bay - San Blas - Wied il-Ghasri - Xlendi Bay

Ggantija Prehistoric Temples - Gozo

A group of two very important temples erected side-by-side on the Xaghra plateau. These date back to 3600-4000 BC, which makes them older than the Pyramids in Egypt.

Close by, one can also find the 17th century Xaghra Ta Kola Windmill.
