The Lascaris War Rooms in VallettaEntrance charges apply. With guided tours and film shows every hour. The Lascaris War Rooms is a historic complex renovated and restored by members of the Malta Heritage Trust - Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna. A network of underground tunnels and chambers hewn out of the solid rock around 400 feet under the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta. Used as the Allied Forces War HQ in Malta during WWII. The ultra secret bunker housed an operations room for each of the fighting services. See the RAF's Fighter, Control Room from where all air and sea operations were controlled, as well as Malta's ground based Air Defences of Radar and Anti-aircraft Guns. Later used by NATO as a strategic Communications Centre until 1977. Access to the Lascaris war rooms was through a tunnel located in the Valletta main ditch at the foot of St Peter and St Paul bastion; alternatively one could gain access from the side of Fort Lascaris.
